Scottish Hotels of the Year Awards

ScotHot will kick off on Sunday evening with The Scottish Hotels of the Year Awards. Now in their 4th year, the awards recognise the top hotels across a number of categories, including Scottish Hotel of the Year, Romantic Hotel of the Year and Wedding Hotel of the Year.
Nominated by the general public who cast almost 25,000 votes, the awards are judged by a panel of industry leaders, writers and critics, and will be attended by the speaker of the Scottish Parliament.

Scottish Food Scholarship 2007
Live Competition Theatre
26 February (5 – 7.30pm)

Following the success of Scotland's inaugural national chef scholarship in 2006, the search for the 2007 champion will culminate at ScotHot. The Scholarship, designed to encourage and develop skills and abilities in young talented chefs, will also open doors and opportunities for the winning contender.

The winner will carry out a series of internships and work with some of the best in the food and catering world, both at home and abroad, including an internship with Martin Wishart at his eponymous restaurant in Leith. This year's winner, Kevin Sutherland, is due to undertake an internship in Melbourne, Australia, at Raymond Capaldi's Fenix Restaurant in the near future.

Scottish Culinary Championships

This year is expected to attract over 400 entries across the 50 competitions, and 2007 will see the addition of a new competition - Public Sector Chef of the Year - to the already packed schedule:

The Scottish Chef of the Year is the most prestigious competition at the Championships, and will provide visitors with a first-hand experience of live competition. Open to all chefs in the catering trade, the competition is run in conjunction with the Federation of Chefs Scotland, and is sponsored in 2007 by KNORR. The winner will receive a hefty £2,500 first prize, and will automatically be entered into the heats of the KNORR Chef of the Year contest in 2008.

HCIMA Small Business Focus
Seminar Theatre

Designed to provide practical advice and guidance on setting up and running a small business in Scotland, the HCIMA will host a series of short seminars on a variety of topics, from marketing and finance through to business-planning and IT.

Demonstration Theatre

As one of the youngest Scottish chefs to be awarded a Michelin Star, watching 29-year-old Tom Kitchin show off his culinary skills at the Demonstration Theatre guarantees to be one of the most exciting features of ScotHot. Several of Scotland's top chefs will also be sharing their knowledge and skills each afternoon in the studio kitchen. Geoff Smeddle of the Peat Inn and Edinburgh's Craig McAlpine, winner of Channel 4's 'Come Dine with Me' will be on hand to demonstrate their top tips, and renowned chef and cookery writer Wendy Barrie will also be on-hand to discuss fantastic Scottish home-grown produce.

A leading contributor to the Scottish food scene, Wendy selects and recommends high-quality restaurants and food suppliers around Scotland, and is a crusader for good food. For an insight into her award-winning Scottish Food Guide, don't miss out on seeing her on Wednesday 28 February at 3.30pm.

KNORR Scottish Chef of the Year 2007 Final
Knorr World Junior Culinary Grand Prix, sponsored by KNORR
Restaurant of Nations/Studio Kitchen

As the feature event in the World Association of Cooks' Societies (WACS) calendar, the Knorr World Junior Culinary Grand Prix is one of the major accredited events in 2007.
Each day, three of the competing teams will prepare a three-course meal for 50 covers to be served in the Restaurant of Nations. Visitors will see the chefs competing through the special viewing panels in the kitchens.

Unilever Foodsolutions have been involved in the competition since its inception in 1997, and the KNORR name is internationally recognised by chefs for its quality range of culinary products that are used in kitchens all over the world.

Confirmed teams include participants from Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Portugal, and Canada, and will be judged on their creativity, workmanship, originality, composition and presentation.
