Hotelympia 2008 – Alive with Innovation!

With over 1,000 exhibitors including new product areas such as Tabletop, Décor & Design, Premises & Facilities Management, and Bathroom & Spa, Hotelympia 2008 is set to be the biggest and best to date.

Whatever your interest, there is something for everyone at Hotelympia. From the culinary competitions in the Live Theatre to intense debate and discussion in the eight sector-specific seminar theatres, the finals of the UK Barista Championship to the heats of the Nestlé Toque d'Or, and the creative inspiration of The Skillery – all these ingredients go together to make Hotelympia the most cooking event of the year.

Alive with Technology

Hostec-Europe will be open from the Monday through to the Thursday and will feature a specific seminar programme that boasts an operator-led focus. Aimed at the sharing of experiences, the programme will cover key issues including internet marketing, fraud-prevention and mobile payment solutions, in addition to reservation-management and loyalty programmes. These free-of-charge seminars will be open to all visitors.

Tuesday 19th will see the launch of the Senior Management Conference aimed at CEOs and CIOs of the major groups in the hospitality industry. After an opening address by a keynote speaker, the conference will split into two halves; Technology for Hospitality will investigate the advances and trends in the accommodation arena, from customer relationships through to in-room technology, while Technology for Foodservice will investigate new developments in EPOS systems and supply chain management.

Institute of Hospitality seminar theatres at Hotelympia 2008

Sustainable Futures Theatre: stand (N1669)

The Institute of Hospitality is hosting the Sustainable Futures and Careers in Hospitality seminar theatres at Hoteympia, featuring a number of expert speakers and topics.

Sustainable Futures will run from the Sunday 17th to Thursday 21st February and will include over 20 seminar sessions on sustainability in procurement, design, food and drink and kitchen equipment. Each session will look at the practical issues facing the hospitality industry, and will introduce case-studies.

There will also be five one-hour panel discussions to be held at 1pm on each of these days. The debates will examine the core sustainability concerns of the industry, and will enable visitors to discuss the challenges they are encountering. The discussions comprise: Waste and Recycling (17 February); Sustainable Procurement – A Look at Seasonality (18 February); Engaging in Corporate Sustainability (19 February); The Effects of Climate Change (20 February); and Sustainable Tourism (21 February) to be co-hosted with the Tourism Society.

Alive with Careers

On 18th and 19th February, the Institute of Hospitality will host the Careers in Hospitality Theatre, the only event dedicated to bringing together employers and employees with an interest in the hospitality industry. With over 6,500 visitors in 2006, Careers in Hospitality features over 40 representative companies including Intercontinental, Malmaison and Four Seasons, and will help recruiters to attract and retain the right staff.

The topics will include: recognising your talents; the perfect CV; how to network for your career and how to get promoted; how to get the salary you deserve; how to improve your interview techniques; continuing professional development and opportunities for working abroad.

There will also be two lunchtime panel discussions at 1pm. The first, Does Flexible Working Work? (18th February) will examine the benefits and difficulties of flexible working for both employers and employees.

The second, entitled Why Don't the British Want a Career in Hospitality? (19th February) will look at possible reasons for the lack of interest in the hospitality industry from the British working population.

Careers in Hospitality will run on Monday and Tuesday 18th & 19th February.
