CiS Excellence Awards 2010 
Planning for the 7th annual CIS Excellence Awards is now underway, and Catering in Scotland magazine and the Federation of Chefs Scotland will soon be asking for entries and nominations when the categories officially open in 25th January 2010.
Launched in 2004, the awards aim to recognise, celebrate and reward the high degrees of creativity, innovation and excellence in Scotland's catering, hospitality and tourism industries.
Open to established and emerging businesses and individuals involved in these sectors, the CIS Excellence Awards are positioned as the industry's ultimate accolade. From chefs, hotels and caterers, to restaurants, colleges, pubs and local authorities, there is an award to suit you or your business.
And this year the CIS Excellence Awards Board has announced a significant change to one of the categories, as well as the introduction of a completely new award. The change is to the Hotel of the Year (HotY) category. In order to differentiate between the objectives and efforts of Scotland's group hotels and the many varied independent establishments, the HotY category will for 2010 be re-launched as the Independent Hotel of the Year Award, sponsored by ARAMARK. Aimed at recognising businesses and establishments which are independently owned and run, the new category will seek to identify and showcase the hard work of the staff, management and proprietor(s) of independently owned hotel businesses. The same highest standards of product and service will still be expected, but the category will be open exclusively to independent establishments in 2010. Group-operated hotels, meanwhile, will be eligible to enter the Group Hotel of the Year Award in 2011, and the category will alternate on a yearly basis thereafter.
The introduction of an all-new 'green' category completes the principal changes made to the CIS Excellence Awards this year. The Sustainable Business Award, sponsored by Nestlé Professional, will be aimed at businesses which have excelled in their efforts to neutralise or positively reduce their impact on the environment. Open to any hotel, restaurant, local authority, caterer, college or foodservice operator, regardless of size, the Sustainable Business Award will seek to identify the companies and individuals who are leading the way in energy-efficiency and sustainable business practice.
